KNX Building Automation Installation & Repairs in Sydney

KNX Sydney

Sydney’s KNX system experts

The KNX building automation system was originally known as the European Installation Bus (EIB), and was developed and marketed by the EIB Association (EIBA). In 1999, EIBA, Batibus Club International (BCI, France) and the European Home Systems Association (EHSA, Netherlands) amalgamated, the name KNX was adopted, and the Brussels-based KNX Association was set up. The technology used in modern KNX devices is compatible with that of the old EIB system, so all devices bearing either the KNX or the EIB logo are mutually compatible.

Create lighting control networks large and small with KNX sensors and switches

The basic components of a KNX system are sensors (switches, motion sensors etc.) and actuators (relays, dimmers, blind/curtain actuators etc.) connected by bus cable. The KNX bus is 2-wire with communications superimposed over network power (30VDC)

The KNX wiring topology is comprised of up to 15 Areas with each of these comprised of up to 15 lines, with up to 255 devices on each line. Understandably, KNX systems can be used to realise very large networks in addition to small ones.

KNX – An open system for endless interface options

The primary advantage of KNX is that it’s an open system with hundreds of compliant manufacturers producing devices that can be used interchangeably. This provides the client with endless user interface possibilities in the way of aesthetics and control options. The KNX Association (Brussels) governs compliance and administers the sole programming application ETS (Engineering Tool Software). Only stringently trained technicians, whom must pass both a theory and practical exam after 4 solid of training can be certified to design and commission KNX systems.

KNX is decentralised and reliable

Each device in the KNX system communicates to other devices through Groups Addresses and Device Object associations. This makes the KNX system decentralised and does not reliant on any particular central intelligent processing unit to operate normally. This improves reliability as a network failure will only affect the failed devices and not cause the whole system to fail or stop working.
